English Book Report

 I. Introduction/General Information about the Book
  • Title: Of Mice And Men
  • Author: John Steinbeck
  • Type of Book: Fiction
II. Character:

Main Character: George Milton
  • He is the only friend of Lennie. Because of Lennie's innocence about the world, George is always set in trouble. The main struggle that George encounter is when his friend Lennie killed the wife of Curley.
  • I can identify with the main character when: he always the solves the problem. He's not letting Lennie be punished whenever Lennie made wrong things. Instead, he is always telling Lennie not to worry and then go to another place.
Supporting Characters:
  1. Lennie
  2. Culey's Wife
  3. Candy
III. Setting
  • The first scene was in the bush. It was along the side of Salinas River which is a few miles from the South of Soledad. The second was at the ranch. There found a bunkhouse with a rectangular shape. One also of the setting is at the  the one end of the barn. There piled a new hay came down like a mountain slope to the other end of the barn.
  • The setting makes the story exciting. Just like when it was at the piled hay. Since Lennie killed Curley's wife nearly at the end of the last stall, it makes me excited if Candy would be seeing Culey's wife dead.It also made my imagination widen as I read the description of  every setting.
IV. Plot:
  • It was a friday evening when were on their way to the ranch. They decided to spend their night along the Salinas River. They talked about their plan to settle at a small house with a big vegetable patch and rabbits.
  • The next day, they arrived at the ranch. They met first the old swamper. They had talked about the owner and his son,Curley.
  • Curley arrived at the bunkhouse. He talked with George and Lennie. But because George said to Lennie not to say a word, Lennie did not answer the questions of Curley. Lennie made Curley angry.
  • One evening, Curley fought with Lennie. Lennie did not counter attack, instead, looked to George seems like asking for help but George told him to do so. He defended himself by holding the hands of Curley and breaking it. Curley promised not to tell anyone about what happened.
  • One Sunday afternoon, Lennie accidentally break the neck of his puppy. Curley's wife suddenly came and saw what happened. She let Lennie to touch her hair, since she knew that Lennie want smooth things. But Curley's wife was hurt when Lennie put so much effort to her hair, so she yelled aloud. Lennie break the neck of Curley's wife because he was afraid that George will not lend him the rabbits.
  • The last part was Lennie hide at the bush. George found Lennie there. George told Lennie to walk towards the river and shoot him.

V. Theme
  • The author wants the reader to understand the true meaning of friendship. He also wants to show us that people who are strong disposes the weak. Just like when Carlson killed Candy's dog. They decided to kill it since it has no more purpuse to them and to the ranch. It is better to kill him than to make him suffer while he was living.
  • I learned from this story that a freindship is not always consideration but also truth. You cannot hide the mistake of your freind by just considering it. Rather, correcting it according to the truth to serve as a lesson to each of you.
  • When Lennie was accused of killing Curley's wife, he was being searched by all of the men at the ranch. To solve this problem, George got to the bush where Lennie was hidden. He then killed Lennie to end his suffering.
VI. Evaluation of the Book
  • I like the story because it shows a love with no boundaries. Even George has no relation with Lennie, he still care for him.
